The history of VERONESE Chemicals is related to the history of wine-making in Brazil.

The wine industry in Brazil began in the late 1800's, when the first Italian immigrants arrived and settled in the South. As wine had always had an important place in the Italian culture, the first settlers decided to produce wine for family consumption.

However, the soil in the region was acid and therefore unfavorable for grape-growing. Besides, the varieties of vines brought from Europe and grafted onto native varieties were plain ones. The result was poor quality harvests.

The wine made from those grapes and with little technology was, therefore, of low quality and had a short life. It had to be drunk quickly, before it turned into vinegar…

A young immigrant-descendant Brazilian, Luiz Veronese, understood the importance of the subject for the Italian community, and decided to look into the matter. As he had the opportunity to travel to Italy, he brought back specific literature.

Assisted by his brothers, he researched and developed products and procedures to correct the soil acidity and to stabilize the wine, improving aspects such as color and aroma.

That is how VERONESE & CIA LTDA started in 1911, in Caxias do Sul, a town which, at the time, was the main producer of grapes and wine in the country.

As years went by, the Brazilian wine industry evolved. Today Brazilian wines follow the international standards of quality. VERONESE Chemicals continues to supply products to the wine industry, but on a much lesser scale, since the needs for additives and correctives have greatly decreased.

Most of VERONESE's products are of natural organic origin. Produced in accordance with procedures that guarantee safety and hygiene adequate for human consumption, the products are used in industrial applications such as food and drink, essences and fragrances, and pharmaceutical, among others.
